About Me

Seyed Mohammad Mehdi Madani

Geotechnical Engineer

Underground Engineering • Geosynthetics • Waterproofing

Professional Profile

My professional journey began in civil and structural engineering, with early experience in the design and supervision of residential and industrial structures. Over time, my work increasingly shifted toward geotechnical engineering, where I became involved in the analysis and design of foundations, retaining structures, deep excavations, reinforced soil systems, and other geotechnical applications. This experience gradually developed into a stronger specialization in geosynthetics and underground engineering, particularly waterproofing and drainage systems for underground structures. My professional activities have covered different stages of engineering projects, including technical assessment, numerical modeling, design, material selection, construction, supervision, and rehabilitation. Alongside professional practice and consulting, I have maintained an active academic and research profile in geotechnical engineering and geosynthetics. As a PhD candidate in Geotechnical Engineering, I continue to connect experimental research and engineering analysis with practical challenges encountered in real projects. This combination of structural, geotechnical, and underground engineering experience has shaped my multidisciplinary and system-based approach to engineering problems.

Engineering Philosophy

Underground engineering challenges rarely belong to a single discipline. Ground conditions and groundwater establish the environment in which the structure must perform, while structural design, waterproofing, drainage, geosynthetics, material selection, detailing, and construction quality collectively determine its long-term performance. My approach is therefore system-based: I begin by understanding the ground and groundwater conditions, then consider how each engineering component interacts throughout the structure’s service life. Rather than treating waterproofing, drainage, geosynthetics, or concrete as isolated solutions, I integrate them within the overall geotechnical and structural context to develop practical, durable, and technically sound solutions.
